Having an email list is crucial in business., and if you’re new to being a small business owner, I’m sure you’ve considered how to grow your email list. This is because customers who opt-in to your marketing emails are one of your warmest leads. They want to hear from you, they want to know what’s new in your shop, and they want to stay updated because they are potentially ready to buy.
There’s numerous ways to add an email subscriber form to your shop, depending on which platform you are using. Personally, I always recommend Shopify as features like this are just easy. However, a simple Google search of how to add an email form to [platform] will help fill in any blanks if you need help.
Once you have an email form ready for people to add their contact information, how exactly do you encourage them to do just that? Today, I’m going to share 3 easy methods that you can start utilizing today to grow your email list.
This is the most straight-forward way to grab someone’s email, and I’m sure you see it everywhere. Simply offer a reward in exchange for their sign-up. This could be offering 10% off their first purchase, a $5 coupon, or even a small free gift!
You can use a system like Flodesk (our favorite to use here at Inventora!) to set up a flow to reward this offer. It’s so easy to create, and Flodesk will automatically send an email with the offer after a customer signs up. It’s a hands-off task for you to manage while still encouraging new email subscribers every day.
A great strategy to gain email subscribers is to create a sense of urgency. For example, I’ve been talking about possibly doing a sample sale of my upcoming Autumn collection. But in order for customers to stay updated about this news, I’ve requested that they opt-in to my email list.
Not only does this create a sense of FOMO – driving people to become a newsletter subscriber. But it also helps generate warm leads of people who will actually purchase from you, because they truly are interested in that specific product. They are just waiting to hear more about it!
This one is the most obvious and easy strategy to implement when learning how to grow your email list as a small business owner. But simply thinking about the placement of your newsletter sign-ups. Making sure your signup form is readily available will help tremendously in growing your email list.
Placing your signup form in the footer of your website is great to ensure that it can be found on every single page a customer browses. Also, creating a pop-up or some way to draw attention to the signup form will help grow your email list.
Pop-ups and other fun sign-up forms can typically be created by installing plugins through Shopify and other platforms. If plugins don’t exist for the platform that your shop is on, you may need to contract a developer to help implement this feature.
